Descriptive Flex Field (DFF) in Oracle

 Descriptive Flex Field

Descriptive Flex Field is one of the most striking feature provided by Oracle. DFF is a mechanism that lets us create new fields in screens that are delivered by Oracle. Only some setup is needed, but no programmatic change is needed to setup DFF. Oracle delivers a standard set of fields for each screen, but different customers have different needs, hence Oracle lets us create new fields to the screen.

Creating DFF

In Order to do this, we will follow the below steps(screenshots will follow) :-

Navigate the following path

System administrator  à Flex Field à Descriptive à Segments

In this screen you have to enter application name and title on which you want to create DFF. You can find out application and title from examine Here we will create DFF in requisition form at line level

First  uncheck the freeze flex filed definition check box

After that click on segment

Here we have to give the field name that we want to put on that form we can also assign value set to that field

After that close that form

And then check the freeze flex field button

Then compile the DFF

Now go to requisition form

So over there u will find out two fields

Name and purpose

Value of name and purpose field will stored in attribute1 and attribute2

You can also define context DFF

Context DFF means you can enter the value in DFF based on some condition

If condition satisfied then we have to feel the DFF
